Gibson Gives and Music Forward join forces for 2024 LGBTQ+ Emerging Artist Awards

Gibson Gives to contribute over $43,000 to mentorship program supporting young LGBTQ+ talent in the music industry

Gibson Gives, the charitable arm of the iconic music brand Gibson, has partnered with the Music Forward Foundation to present the 2024 LGBTQ+ Emerging Artist Awards. This initiative, aimed at fostering diversity and inclusion in the music industry, will provide significant financial support and mentorship opportunities to ten emerging LGBTQ+ artists aged 18-24.

The awards program is designed to help break down barriers for LGBTQ+ artists, offering them a platform to build thriving careers. In collaboration with Music Forward, Gibson Gives will donate over $43,000 to the program, which includes $33,000 in cash grants and $10,000 in Gibson instruments.

Award details and selection process

Out of a pool of applicants, ten artists will be selected based on the strength and breadth of their musical work, their artistic vision, and their career goals. Each awardee will receive a $3,000 grant, a $1,000 Gibson instrument, and access to performance opportunities at prestigious venues like the Gibson Garage in Nashville. Additionally, they will benefit from quarterly mentorship sessions with established musicians and industry professionals.

The application process is rigorous, with submissions open from August 5 to August 18, followed by an extensive review and selection period. The awardees will be notified on September 30, with the official announcement set for October 2. A virtual award show will take place in mid to late October to celebrate the winners.

Mentorship and support for the next generation of artists

The mentorship aspect of the program is a key component, providing artists with insights from industry veterans. These sessions will cover a wide range of topics, from songwriting to navigating the music business, ensuring that participants are well-equipped to pursue successful careers.

Renowned singer-songwriter and producer Butch Walker, who will serve as a mentor for the 2024 program, expressed his enthusiasm: „I’m excited to support the LGBTQ+ Emerging Artist Award and to celebrate the amazing talent and diversity within the community. This award empowers emerging voices to inspire and create needed change.”
