Endorser video with Dave Young (Devin Townsend Project)
In today’s video, we present Framus endorser Dave Young of the Devin Townsend Project. Dave Young and Devin Townsend visited the Framus & Warwick Headquarter in Markneukirchen during their European tour in 2017 to develop Devin’s Framus Custom Shop Masterbuilt Stormbender signature guitar.
Dave took the opportunity to give our video team a detailed overview of his Framus Custom Shop Masterbuilt Panthera Baritone, as well as their features and personal play.
The particularly long baritone scale (28”) of his Framus Panthera generates enough tension for the deep tuning needed for the Devin Townsend Project. Dave uses a modified 7-string version of the Open-C tuning (GCGCGC) on a 6-string guitar and moves tonally between the bass and Devin Townsend’s guitar playing in the Open-C tuning (CGCGCE).
Dave’s Framus Panthera features a stunning Flamed Maple top in Nirvana Black Color Storm finish, a large Devin Townsend Project logo LED inlay at the 12th fret, as well as LED fretboard side dots. The strings are picked up by two EMG humbuckers with engraved Devin Townsend Project logo and a Graph Tech piezo-bridge connected to a separate jack which, due to the long scale and the thick body of the instrument, delivers a powerful acoustic sound which Dave Young also demonstrates in the video.
Dave switched at the Devin Townsend Project from keyboard to electric guitar in 2010, and is also active in various other projects.
